Groenkloof
4 night adventure

The trip schedule:

Day 1:
An ON THE FLY representative will meet you at the station where you will travel 20km to base camp. On arrival at camp there will be a quick orientation and safety discussion, after which we will serve a light lunch/brunch. Settle in gear up and lets go fishing.
Dinner will be served at a time that is comfortable for the group.

Day 2, 3 and 4:

At Groenkloof time is on your side, and the ON THE FLY staff will adapt to your pace. There is 7 km of river to explore - so fish your heart out. We will spend time with you while on the water, and where required lend a helping hand to ensure your fishing experience is the best it can be. Every day we will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at times that suit your group. Other than  fishing you can fill the days with a swim in the river, a lazy drift in one of our Arks or just having a rest with a good book in one of the hammocks. Relax, fish hard and enjoy the natural beauty of this area. Dine around the campfire in the evenings and let us spoil you!

Day 5:

Brunch/Lunch will be served at a time of your choice, after which we will return you to Warrenton Station

What to bring.

We will send a detailed list of necessities on conformation of the booking. It basically boils down to your fishing equipment, a sleeping bag and liquor. The rest will be supplied by ON THE FLY.

Seasons.

Groenkloof can be fished right through the year (except when water levels get to high, which we monitor and will be able to tell you well in advance). From September right through to April the fish move into the shallower water, and we fish this time by wading in the river to likely spots. The days can get very hot, but with a 7 km swimming pool, there is enough space to cool down. Winter fishing is a little tougher, and will not be recommended to beginners. We will fish mostly from the Arks, and a trophy large mouth is on the cards if you are prepared to work hard for it. Although we catch fewer smallmouths than in summer, we did find that the quality is better on average. The nights can become very cold, so come prepared! As the sun comes out, the days during winter is fair.
